"From my rotting body, flowers shall grow and I am in them, and that is eternity."
- Edvard Munch
In Absolution (2023) Alexandra Sarah delves into the art of self-healing. In a series of intimate portraits, the artist deviates from the conventional Christian meanings of sin, trauma, and repentance. Instead, she focuses on the divinity of humans, celebrating our strength and resilience. Through these portraits, Alexandra Sarah acknowledges humans as the true designated authority able to dispense forgiveness, including the toughest act of all – forgiving ourselves.
For in a world that is harsh, hostile, and has turned everything into a combative competition, it is easy to forget that the flowers we see did not blossom overnight. The simple act of surviving is sacred, and solely existing is worthy of veneration.
